Start With How You Use the Bathroom
A primary bathroom used by two people has very different requirements from a powder room or guest bath.
Before designing the vanity, think about what actually needs to be stored.
Do you need deep drawers for larger products? Smaller drawers for cosmetics? Storage for hair tools? Towels? Cleaning products?
Custom cabinetry allows the interior storage to be designed around those needs instead of simply filling the available wall with standard cabinet sizes.
Drawers or Doors?
Whenever possible, we love incorporating drawers into bathroom vanities.
Drawers make it easier to access items without reaching into the back of a cabinet, but plumbing needs to be considered during the design.
Sink location, drains and supply lines can all influence the cabinetry underneath.
This is one reason we prefer selecting plumbing fixtures early rather than waiting until the vanity has already been ordered.
Single Sink or Double Sink?
Two sinks aren't automatically better than one.
In some bathrooms, two sinks make perfect sense. In others, they consume valuable countertop and drawer space.
If two people rarely use the sinks simultaneously, one larger sink with additional storage and counter space may actually function better.
Good bathroom design is about how you use the room, not simply checking boxes on a feature list.
Consider the Entire Vanity Wall
The vanity doesn't exist by itself.
We also consider mirrors, sconces, outlets, backsplash details and plumbing fixtures when developing the design.
Cabinet height and width can influence mirror proportions. Mirror placement affects lighting. Faucet style may affect backsplash and countertop details.
Planning these pieces together creates a much cleaner finished result.
Choose Materials That Work With the Rest of the Home
A bathroom can have its own personality without feeling disconnected from the rest of the house.
Wood tones, painted cabinetry, stone and hardware can reference materials used elsewhere while still giving the bathroom a distinct look.
